“博览名校精彩,感悟名校魅力”——AP班全体同学及家长听加州大学伯里克分校招生官讲座

2017年10月28日下午2:00-4：30，我校三个年级AP班的同学及家长齐聚阶梯教室，聆听加州大学伯克利分校招生官Michele和化学院副院长Suzanne带来的精彩而实用的讲座。AP管理组组长尤小平校长主持讲座，AP项目组黄侃主任、高一AP班班主任陈丞老师、高二AP班班主任孙绪阳老师、高三AP班班主任白晶老师、升学顾问马燕老师、教学秘书贾婷婷老师参加了本次活动。

首先，加州大学伯克利分校招生官Michele向同学们和家长们介绍了UC Berkeley这所大学的排名、成绩、院系、活动和录取条件。同学们和家长们在了解世界一流名校的各方面信息时，不时议论纷纷。接着，加州大学伯克利分校化学院副院长Suzanne介绍了和本校AP班合作的GOLD Science Fair项目。因为目前已有20位高二、高三的同学参加了这个项目，而且有更多高一的同学和家长对此项目感兴趣，所以Suzanne副院长讲得很耐心、很详细。随后是“Question and Answer”环节，有疑问的家长和同学纷纷向伯克利的招生官和化学院副院长提问，并且得到了全面而精准的回答。最后，化学院副院长Suzanne和寒假即将赴美参加GOLD Science Fair的20位同学进行单独交流，并为学生们答疑解惑。活动在掌声中圆满结束。

本次名校交流活动，意在为同学们介绍世界一流的大学，感受大学的学习方式，同时播撒“我要进名校”的种子。

各位老师、各位同学、各位家长、大家下午好！

今天是我校110周年校庆之日，上午我们举行了简朴热烈、庄重大气的庆典活动，此刻我们正在六个分会场举行专题讲座。今天我们非常荣幸地邀请到了加州大学伯克利分校的招办主任米歇尔巴特勒女士和化学院副院长苏珊娜萨顿女士，首先让我们以热烈的掌声欢迎她们的到来。加州大学伯克利分校是世界最著名的公立研究型大学，在学术界享有盛誉， 2016年世界大学学术排名世界第三,该校先后产生过94位诺贝奖得主，是加州大学的创始校区，也是全美最自由、最包容的大学之一；伯克利还是世界上最重要的教研中心之一，其中化学专业排名世界第一，共有13位诺贝尔获得者，从1872年以来，在分析，无机，有机，物理和理论化学等领域一直稳居世界第一。现在化学院在生物物理、核、材料和大气化学以及生物化学和纳米技术等新的科学领域也起着引领的作用。我校2016届AP班学生赵墨涵就以优异的成绩和独特的见解被伯克利录取，目前正在该校物理专业学习。

去年十月，我们AP项目开始和伯克利化学院探索合作的可能性。目前，这个课题研究项目正在进行中。我们高二、高三AP班共有20位同学参加了这个研究项目，并于明年2月去伯克利化学院进行为期3周的实验和展示。我们期待在伯克利导师的引导下学习美国大学做课题的方法及思维方式，更好地为自己未来去美国大学学习做好准备。我们相信，未来我们一定会有越来越多的优秀学生被伯克利大学录取。

Good Afternoon, dear colleagues, students, parents, and distinguished guests,

Today marks the 110th anniversary of Nanjing No. 1 Middle School. We celebrated this remarkable event with joy and passion this morning. At this very moment, parallel symposiums are being held at six different venues in Nanjing. We are honored to have invited MS. Suzanne Sutton, Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration, and MS. Michelle Butler, Associate Director , Office of Undergraduate Admissions, UC Berkley, to join us in today’s event. On behalf of our school, I’d like to extend our warmest welcome to them.

UC Berkley is a world-renowned research institution and public university. Its rigorous teaching and research has won itself a high reputation in the academic realm. UC Berkley is the third in the Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2016. In total, it has produced 94 Nobel Laureates and it is the start-off school of the public university system of the State of California, and is regarded as one of the most inclusive and free schools in the U.S. Its Department of Chemistry, which has consistently produced leaders (including 13 Nobel Chemistry Prize winners) in analytical, inorganic, organic, physical and theoretical chemistry since 1872, now leads exploration at the frontiers of knowledge in such areas as biophysical, nuclear, materials and atmospheric chemistry, as well as in the burgeoning of new fields of chemical biology and nanoscience. We are honored that one of our 2016 graduates, Zhao Mohan, was accepted by U.C. Berkley and she’s currently studying in its Physics Department.

Since last October，our AP program and the Chemistry Department of UC Berkley have been exploring the opportunities so that we can work together to provide our students with chances to understand the scientific thinking as well as research methods through doing projects under the guidance of Berkley mentors . Currently, the joint program—Gold Science Fair is under way and there are 20 students from our school who are involved in the program. They will go to Berkley campus to finalize their projects and give presentations during their 3-week stay next February. We are looking forward to involving more students in this program in the near future, and hopefully, with such a valuable experience, our students will be better prepared for their prospective study in the U.S. schools. We believe that there will be more students from our school who will be able to enroll in such a fine school as Berkley and pursue their further study. Thank you.
